This is something really unique and special. Our Joyetech Cuboid Mini review will cover all the bases and explain why the newest version of the Cuboid is taking vaping a huge leap forward. We talk about a lot of high quality vaping products here at Expert Vaping and what we want to do is help you avoid getting stuck with something low quality that you are going to be disappointed in. That’s also why we rail against clones so often. So while we do have a lot of positive reviews and the state of vaping technology is so good right now, I have to say that the Cuboid Mini review has really inspired an extra level of enthusiasm.
The Cuboid Mini checks all the boxes that we could hope for. It really is something special. We are talking about a very compact mod capable of 80 watts, multiple forms of temp control, will provide top performance for all styles of vaping, despite the size it has a large ejuice reservoir and it is very affordable. There is also a lot of innovation here with the Notch coils and the vapor is brilliant. The kit itself comes with four different coils so you can try a number of vaping styles right out of the box.
One of the coil options that comes with the Cuboid is Joyetech’s new coil design called the Notch coil. Joyetech is the parent of Wismec and we first talked about this coil in our Wismec Theorem review. The Notch coil is stainless steel with a 0.25 ohm resistance and can be used in temp control mode or variable wattage anywhere from 30 to 70 watts. The Notch coil is already making waves and so far everyone that has tried it has raved about the performance for both flavor and vapor.
When I first received this new device for the Cuboid Mini review the first thing that jumps out is the size. It is very compact and yet despite it’s ultra portable and comfortable size it is relatively light and contains a powerful 2400 mAh internal battery capable of 80 watts and/or a temperature control vaping setting of up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. And, get this, the Cuboid tank can hold 5 ml of ejuice. Normally to pull this off you would require a large vape tank and a larger mod. The Cuboid Mini may be compact but it really runs the gamut in terms of capabilities.
Joyetech Cuboid Mini
The Joyetech Cuboid Mini is a multi-functional vape mod and tank system that offers a laundry list of vaping styles suitable for new vapers all the way to the sophisticated TCR vapers. For new vapers, the Cuboid Mini starter kit comes with 1.5 ohm Clapton coil designed for mouth to lung vaping, MTL, the same way that you draw smoke into your mouth and then inhale so this is the most familiar way to vape for people transitioning from cigarettes. There are, in addition, a number of sub-ohm vaping coils, including TC, for direct lung vapers looking for huge clouds.
The airflow control on the Cuboid Mini is exceptional. In fact, even with a sub-ohm direct lung, DL, vaping coil it your restrict the airflow you can still vape mouth to lung even with advanced coils. This is another huge plus in my book because when we covered the best vape tanks one of the criteria that we looked at is the diverse range of coil options available for any particular tank. The diversity of options is something that we really want to focus on for our Cuboid Mini review. The Cuboid Mini tank certainly qualifies as one of the best for performance and the options that it gives you. There are 8 different coil options including an RBA coil head.
So let’s get into some nuts and bolts for our Joyetech Cuboid Mini review. We mentioned how compact and portable it is and it really is. The Cuboid Mini stands 124 mm tall or 4.9 inches tall. It is 35.5 mm wide or 1.4 inches. The thickness of the Cuboid Mini is 22.5 mm or just a shade under 0.9 inches thick. It is very comfortable to hold and the tank and mod blend into the single cuboid structure. There is no tank protruding and it looks and feels great in your hand.
The body and components are very high quality stainless steel and everything fits together perfectly. It is also easy to disassemble the Cuboid Mini for cleaning and maintenance. The top section is the tank and it features a large 5 ml ejuice reservoir. The tank is a TFTA tank. That stands for top fill and top airflow. The only protrusion is the drip tip. It comes in five different color options and is priced at $62.95 from Direct Vapor and they always do free shipping.
The Joyetech chip has come to be recognized as one of the better chipsets in the business. The software is very reliable and capable of high performance. It also has dual circuit protection which is another level of battery protection and safety. The software is also upgradeable. Just check in with the Joyetech website from time to time and you can download Cuboid Mini software upgrades as they become available. Software upgrades are accessible through the same USB port that you will use to charge your battery.

Output mode options are all about the various styles of vaping that you can enjoy. I know many of you reading our Joyetech Cuboid Mini review may not be totally familiar with what all of those numbers and abbreviations mean so let’s clear that up.
Cuboid Mini Vaping Options
The Cuboid Mini vaping options are easily accessible and can be adapted to whatever style of vaping that you want. For example, when you get your Cuboid Mini starter kit delivered you are going to get four different coils so you can try out four different styles right off the bat. To access the different modes first click the power button five times to turn it on. Then click the power button three times to access the menu. You can use the up and down buttons to scroll through the options and lock in your chosen settings.
So here are the options. VT-Ti, VT-Ni, VT-SS316, VW, BYPASS, and TCR mode. VT stands for variable temperature so VT-Ti is variable temperature vaping with Titanium coils, VT-Ni is temp control vaping with Ni200 nickel coils, VT-SS 316 is temp control with stainless steel coils. The number 316 representing the particular grade of stainless steel. VW stands for variable wattage and this is where you manually choose your wattage output.
Bypass mode will essentially convert the Joyetech Cuboid VT into a mech mod. In bypass mode, you have to be very careful because there is not battery protection in place and if you hold the fire button to long you can cook your coils. I know that some people like bypass mode but I don’t recommend it. The reason why is that the technology is there to enjoy amazing vaping without bypassing the technology and safety features by using bypass mode.
TCR mode stands for temperature coefficient of resistance. TCR is temp control vaping. In TCR mode you calculate the values based on the atomizer material and resistance. It is more complicated and I did not try this mode for the Cuboid Mini review.
I think the bypass and TCR mode are awesome features that will appeal to a number of sophisticated vapers but at the end of the day the typical vaper is going to be more than satisfied with all of the different VT and VW modes. Titanium, nickel and stainless steel all have different coefficients therefore you need to calculate a TCR value for each type of coil when choosing your TCR vaping value. It will require some time and research to determine the best TCR values and you have that option. Does doing this extra calculation and reckoning lead to better vaping? My opinion is no. I think that the standard VW and VT temp settings provide amazing vaping as is. That said, if you are a techie and like to try different things you will probably enjoy delving into bypass or TCR mode from time to time.
My subjective view as part of my Cuboid Mini review is that with so many coil options and an RBA, you are going to seriously enjoy the variety of vaping that you can simply enjoy without unnecessary complexity. You will get a chart with your Joyetech Cuboid starter kit that has all of the coil options and how each compliments a particular style of vaping. It just so happens that I have a copy of that chart for the Joyetech Cuboid Mini review! And here it is.
The variety of coils available are listed with the respective wattage ranges. The chart covers which coils work best for each style of vaping. The Notch coils can also be used as stainless steel temp control coils. Speaking of Notch coils, lets talk about those.
Notch coils are something new and unique in the world of vaping. The Cuboid Mini does come with a Notch coil so you are going to get to try one out as soon as yours is delivered. So what are Notch coils and what makes them different? Well, in the image above you can see one for yourself!
Notch coils are made of 316 stainless steel and have a resistance of 0.25 ohms. They are a single solid piece as opposed to a wrapped wire coil. The Notch has a lot of flat surface area that heats up to vaporize the ejuice. The increased flat surface area is probably why the Notch coils are getting such rave reviews for vapor production and flavor. Like wrapped coils, the wick goes through the center of the coil.
One thing that you will notice when vaping with Notch coils is how responsive they are. You click the power button and the sizzle is almost instant. They heat up very fast. The reason that they are more responsive than other coil designs is that the wires that deliver current to the coil are ultra low resistance so the current experiences virtually no resistance until it arrives at the coil itself. The connecting wires are spot welded to the Notch coil.
The Notch coils can be used in temperature control vaping mode, VT-SS316, or in variable wattage mode, VW. In VW, you have massive range of 30 watts all the way up to 70 watts. The vaping in both VW and VT mode from the Notch coils is phenomenal. In fact, many are calling it the best temp control coil that they have every tried. These are vapor makers and richly flavorful. So far you cannot find one negative review about Notch coils, they are that good.

Anyway, back to the Cuboid Mini review. You can see all that you are getting with this kit. It is very complete and let’s you delve into numerous styles of exceptional vaping. I love the Cuboid Mini kit. You get so much and you can enjoy standard vaping with premium Clapton coils, sub-ohm vaping, temp control, you get and RBA and the new Notch coil. It’s awesome. It just is.
The only thing that you have to buy separately is eliquid. Direct Vapor has a number of great eLiquids that are professionally blended in a state of the art lab. They even carry VaporFi eJuice. Other companies that make quality, diacetyl free ejuice are Halo and Apollo.
If you are new to vaping, you will particularly enjoy the 1.5 ohm BF Clapton coil. The vapor is so good. One thing to keep in mind for new vapers. When choosing your e-lqiuid, you will want to have two different types of e-juice on hand. When using an atomizer coil above 1.0 ohms for mouth to lung vaping, you will want a 50/50 VG/PG eliquid. When choosing a nicotine level, how much you smoke will determine which level will satisfy your cravings. For example, if you are a pack per day smoker you will do well with a 18 mg nicotine level or a 24 mg nicotine level.
When you are using the Notch coil, a temp control coil or any coil with a resistance under 1.0 ohms, you will want an ejuice with a higher VG ratio. You will want at least 70% VG e-liquid. Here’s the next part, with a high VG eliquid and subohm vaping or TC vaping, you will need a lot less nicotine than with standard vaping. Go with a 3 mg or 6 mg nicotine level tops.
Using The Cuboid Mini
Using the Cuboid Mini is a lot of fun. Perhaps simply because it is different? I don’t know but doing the Cuboid Mini review was a lot of fun. The mod itself has an internal 2400 mAh battery with the excellent Joyetech chip. There is ample battery venting on the bottom which I really like but just don’t set your Cuboid down in the sand on the beach! You don’t want to do that with any vape mod actually. By all means go to the beach but keep your vape in a case!
The TFTA tank is gorgeous and it beautifully connects to the battery. When your thread it into the 510 connection, it should line up with the mod. When I got mine for the Cuboid Mini Review, it lined up perfectly. The whole time that I was testing and using it for the Cuboid Mini review, it never wavered. It maintained that perfect alignment. If it hadn’t, that would not be a big deal because you can adjust it.
Let’s say your Cuboid Mini tank is a bit off center or you want to use it on a different mod. All you do is loosen the set screws slightly, not all the way, and then you adjust the tank position so that it is flush and then tighten up the set screws. Mission accomplished, it’s that easy. So you can use another vape tank with the Cuboid mod and you can use the Cuboid TFTA tank on another mod. I tried out a Cubis tank with the Cuboid mod and the Cuboid TFTA tank on a Sigelei 213 mod.
All combinations worked beautifully but I just did that for testing purposes for the Cuboid Mini review. Honestly, the Cuboid TFTA tank and mod work perfectly with each other. So while you can mix and match tanks and mods, I don’t think that you will want to. The Cuboid tank is made for the Cuboid mod and they are a match made in Heaven. You won’t need anything else.
The TFTA tank is top fill and top airflow. The top airflow feature draws the air from under an airflow vent located right on the atomizer assembly right where it meets the top of the tank. To adjust airflow you turn the airflow ring . It’s really easy and you can fine tune your preferred airflow to match your vaping style. The airflow is fantastic. You can go from a stiff draw to an airy draw as easy as pie.
How do you put in more ejuice? You unscrew the atomizer assembly and drip tip from the tank and there is a very large juice port. This is not one of those tanks with little ejuice holes that make a mess. No, this is a large juice port that makes filling easy. The coil threads into the atomizer assembly and then you insert the assembly into the tank and thread it in place to connect to the battery. It is very easy but there is one thing about filling the Cuboid TFTA tank what we do need to talk about.
Filling The Cuboid Mini Tank
The Cuboid Mini tank has a large 5 ml ejuice capacity. This is awesome, of course, we all agree. But, when you fill the tank you do not want to go over the fill line visible on the window of the Cuboid tank. In the image above, you can see where the max line is located. Make sure that you don’t go over that line because if it is over-filled, when you insert the atomizer assembly the excess juice will drip out because of displacement.
Displacement. Always makes me think of Mr. Tuchscherer’s physics class when we talked about Archimedes. Great story. Archimedes filled the bath tub up to the top and then when he got into the bath he displaced water and spilled all over his floor, Archimedes, realizing the new scientific principle of displacement, jumped out of the tub and ran around naked shouting – Eureka! That, ladies and gentlemen, is how the very word “eureka” came to be. Yes, because of displacement.
Now, if you overfill the Cuboid tank and your ejuice gets displaced all over your hands, you will probably not happily shout Eureka so let’s avoid that! So, fill the ejuice to the line and not above. If the fill line wears off, just remember to fill up the eliquid almost but not quite the the top of the window. That’s all I have to say about that.
Cuboid Mini Performance
The Cuboid Mini is absolutely a stellar performer. It is so hard to believe that this little mod has so much power and capability. It is smaller than the eVic VT Mini. Looking at it, you would be inclined to think that it is a 40 to 60 watt mod tops. Nope, you can go all the way up to 80 watts or 600 degrees Fahrenheit, or 315 degrees C. It’s your call and it is all very easy to adjust. We’ll begin there with the functionality.
The buttons are all responsive and durable. They have a nice click action and nothing rattles. The screen is small, of course, but still easy to read. It can be hard to read in bright light but that’s normal. To power up the Mini is the standard five clicks. Once turned on, click three times to get into the menu and then it is a matter of scrolling through and locking in your chosen values. You will probably go back and forth into the menu and switch things up once you start vaping as you seek that perfect setting.
I tried all of the coils that came with the kit. This was the second time that I have tried a Notch coil and I continue to be impressed. I preferred the Notch coil in temperature control mode set at the 400 degree mark. The vapor was so rich and consistent and the flavors totally shine. It is a vapor and flavor producer extraordinaire. In variable wattage mode, the Notch coil can be used anywhere from 30 to 70 watts. I found that at 70 watts while the vapor could cloud Madison Square Garden, for me it was a little warm. I thought 50 watts was the sweet spot. PS, the durability of the Notch coil is outstanding, among the most durable coils I have tried.
The 1.5 ohm Clapton MTL coil was a rock star performer. You can vape the 1.5 ohm coil anywhere from 8 watts up to 20 watts. I enjoyed the vapes at 14 watts. Truth be told, day to day, I am an MTL vaper. Of course I enjoy subohm and TC as well. I can say the vaping the Cuboid Mini with the 1.5 ohm Claptons is as good MTL vaping as I have experienced. It is close to par with the Nautilus coils like I previously covered in the Aspire Plato review. The organic cotton Clapton coils truly deliver excellent vaping. Using this coil option is perfect for MTL vapers and smokers just making the transition to vapor.
The 0.5 ohm BF DL stainless steel coil is an excellent sub-ohm, temp control coil. Operating in the 15 watt to 30 watt range, the vapor production is cloud city and very good flavor. The 25 watt area seems to be the sweet spot but that, as always, is subjective. You will perhaps find your own sweet spot. The durability is excellent. If you tighten up the airflow you can do mouth to lung hits as well but generally it performs better as a direct lung, DL, vaping coil.
The RBA coil is small and it can be tricky to build on but the flip side of that is that you can build either vertical or horizontal coils. Well, let me qualify that the reason that I say it is tricky to build on is just because of the size. If you have Big clumsy fingers like me it’s tricky. If you possess dazzling digital dexterity, it will be easier for you! So if you enjoy building, this just shows how the Cuboid Mini really does it all. You can create very low resistance coils and the Mini will precisely read the resistance and you can push this powerful little mod to its 80 watt max if you want to!
Below I have attached a couple of links to videos where you can see examples of building with the RBA coils.
After experimenting with all of the vaping styles during the Joyetech Cuboid Mini review, there was no doubt whatsoever that this is an exceptional vaping device that performs at a high-end level. I had no flooding, no leaking, no dry hits. None of that. There were no issues with attachments, connections or the software. The Ohms meter is spot on accurate and that’s no surprise because Joyetech has made huge strides in chip technology and it shows. The Cuboid design is not a gimmick, it is a very high functioning design.
In every configuration and every style of vaping, the Cuboid Mini vaped beautifully. It is very responsive and frankly fun. There are so many coil options. For the Cuboid Mini review we could not even test all of them! We tested four and that was more than enough to know that this is a special device. The coil quality is remarkable. That is a testament to the quality of materials used. You are going to get outstanding mileage out of the coils. The 2400 mAh battery charges fast and has excellent battery life. The vaping performance is amazing.
In terms of the Joyetech Cuboid Mini performance, as I was testing and vaping for the Cuboid Mini review I kept experiencing the same phenomenon. That is that I was enjoying the vaping so much in so many different modes I could not help but keep coming back to the fact that this small, compact mod could do so much so well with so much power.
Cuboid Mini Review Summary
I can tell you right now that it is not going to be easy to identify any “cons” for our Joyetech Cuboid Mini review. I looked for cons, believe me. You could say well it’s only 80 watts that’s not powerful enough. That’s not a con, this 80 watt mod has amazing capacity especially considering its comfort and compact portability. You might say that the RBA coil is not easy to build on. That’s pretty minor. I mean, I have to have cons otherwise I lose credibility because every mod has pros and cons, right?
Well I’m serious, there is not much at all to gripe about with the Joyetech Cuboid Mini. It gets hot. That’s bout the biggest one. Delrin drip tips help. The fact that the Cuboid has so many options including an RBA is pretty spectacular so its much more of a pro. In bright light it is hard to see the screen. That’s about the only con.
The Pros, there are many. This is a very compact mod and believe it or not despite its stature, it is capable of 80 watts or 600 degrees and holds 5 ml of ejuice. It vapes amazingly in virtually any configuration. It accommodates multiple vaping styles. It is upgradeable and durable. It is affordable especially given the performance and versatility. I have to rate it as one of the best value vape mod kits. Also a huge pro is the Notch coil.
This is by far the longest vape mod review that I have ever written. With the Joyetech Cuboid Mini it does so many things so well that it really took a lot to describe it. I could even say more but I am sure you get the idea, it’s excellent and I happily recommend it. Enthusiastically in fact.
With all that this does and the very impressive quality, we give the Joyetech Cuboid Mini an A plus and a smiley face and we fully recommend this product. I have told friends about it and I have even told my mom she should get herself a Cuboid Mini. She will love it! She would also say that it’s cute, I’m sure. It is attractive. Anyway, this is one that I am particularly excited about I think the Cuboid Mini is something special and there is little doubt that it is going to be one of the bestsellers of 2016. There is a very good chance that it could become your new daily vape.
