Blu Cigs is the most famous electronic cigarette brand. They are very well marketed on national TV, usually with a celebrity endorser. They are also sold pretty much everywhere that you find a cash register. As our electronic cigarette review pointed out, the substance is not on par with the hype.

The marketing has been a wild success. Blu is the best e-cig when it comes to sales. In fact, Blu E-Cig caught the attention of tobacco giant Lorillard and was ultimately purchased by Lorillard. Recently RJ Reynolds purchased Lorillar but did not want Blu as they decided to stick with their own e-cig product, the Vuse electronic cigarette.

The marketing by e-cig company Blu has been a runaway success that made them a dominant player in the world vaping market.

To bring you up to date, Blu E-Cig is no longer a Lorillard property, nor are they a Reynolds property. Right now they are a part of the Imperial Tobacco portfolio. Regardless of the shifting sands in ownership, Blu remains a top seller and huge success when it comes to profits.

There has been some controversy about Blu Cigs. Specifically about the quality especially considered next to the massive hype. Many in the vaping community have grown concerned that the Blu e-cig will leave all too many people unsatisfied. There are other brands out there that truly deserve consideration as the best e-cig and can provide an optimal alternative for smokers.

Blu e-cigs is owned by Imperial Tobacco, purchased as an attempt to break into the electronic cigarette market.

The criticisms of Blu are fair to some degree. The vaping experience provided by Blu Cigs starter kit can safely be categorized as mild. People that smoke a pack per day or more may find that vaping a Blu e-cigarette does not satisfy their nicotine craving and the throat hit is too mild.

For lighter smokers, Blu may be just the right fit. Also, for people that find propylene glycol e-liquid to be harsh, Blu’s milder vegetable glycerin base can provide a perfect alternative. The Blu e-cig product itself, the hardware, is very solid and well made.

As for the hype surrounding Blu, you have to hand it to them. They know how to market. It is a business after all.

Blu e-cigs has a guide on their website to help users match to the perfect model for their usage, lifestyle and needs. website itself is attractive and easy to navigate. There is also a lot of valuable information available. They explain “How Blu Cigs Work” and they have a section dedicated to news and inside stories. gives you a chance to sign up for a rewards program. The benefits include access to special savings and prioritized check out.

The rewards program is a points based system and if you are a Blu regular, it would be worth your while to check it out.

You can also find information about upcoming events in which Blu is involved as a sponsor. The events include major concerts and festivals, beach events, motorcycle events and more. Blu has really done an excellent job integrating itself into pop culture. They have absolutely already built a great deal of brand awareness. Given the relatively short amount of time that they have been in business, you cannot help but be impressed.

You may also see Blu’s latest product, the Blu Plus tank system. It is a closed e-cig tank system meaning that you do not manually refill the tanks, rather you use disposable tanks.

Despite the perks, pop culture familiarity and attractive website, our real concern is the actual quality of the Blu e-cigarette itself. We covered that in our Blu E-Cig review.

Updated Review on Blu Cigs

We have brought you up to date on the business status of Blu now it is time to update our Blu Cigs review. We originally rated Blu an 8.1 out of 10 score and that has not changed. As mentioned, Blu is a milder vape, Blu cigs cartridges don’t last as long as the best e-cig brands and the battery life is short at about 100 puffs.

The pluses were the quality of the materials, the quick charging time of the batteries, the attractive portable charger case and the yummy flavors.

Check out our Blu Cigs review video below to get the specific details.

Our readers have since given Blu Cigs a score of 5.9 out of 10. Read the consumer electronic cigarette reviews here. Some of the pluses experienced by our readers include:

  • It’s not terrible, but it isn’t great.
  • I have been using the Blu e-cig for two months and have had zero problems. I used to smoke half a pack per day and the odd cigar.
  • Blu was my first foray into vaping. It is a very solid product.
  • I love the charging pack and the look. The best thing is that there is never a chemical aftertaste like with some other e-cigs.

Some of the first hand negative comments that we received from Blu customers were:

  • Low nicotine satisfaction and I barely noticed any throat hit. If you are trying to replace smoking it should at least feel like smoking.
  • As a heavier smoker, I would go through Blu cig cartridges every 10 or 15 minutes.
  • You see the vapor but you can’t feel or taste it.

It’s safe to conclude that Blu may not be for everyone, especially heavier smokers. There are no new revelations regarding quality and Blu still offers the same flavors. We do want to update you on the Blu Cigs price catalog.

Blu Cigs Price

Blu e-cigarettes have consumer appeal with their simple design and affordable prices.

At the time of our initial review, the Blu Cigs price for the original starter kit was $69.95. The kit came with:

  • 2 Blu e-cig batteries
  • 1 wall charger and 1 USB charger
  • 1 pack of 5 Blu Cigs flavor cartridges
  • 1 Blu portable charger pack

That original price has dropped significantly. Blu’s prices for starter kits are now among the lowest that you will find.

Now, you can buy the Rechargeable Starter Kit for $34.99. It comes with:

  • 2 Blu Cigs batteries
  • 1 car charger and 1 USB charger
  • 1 pack of 5 Blu cartridges
  • 1 Blu slim charger pack

The cost for the basic starter kit has dropped but the prices for the Premium 100 kit are the same as reported in our original review. Blu Cigs flavor cartridges sell in packs of 5 for $12.80 each, which is basically at or near the industry standard.
